On January 30th we had another snowfall, this one with a depth of 10 inches. It was very pretty to look at but not so nice to navigate. At least we only had two horses to worry about feeding and not big herds of cows like most of our neighbors. And we had to keep the bird feeder filled for the likes of this little thing that looks absolutely frozen.
The cardinals are about the only bird I can recognize and we have plenty of them. They show up so well in the snow and offer good photo ops. They all feed as much off the spillage on the ground as from the feeder.
When the snow finally stopped, we bundled up and trekked out into the pasture with the dogs to check on the horses, who had never bothered to come up to the barn for two days. That's me in our Ranger ATV in case you can't tell. I had on all my ski clothes, plus goggles because it was so bright with the sun shining on the snow.
On the way to the back 40, Denis spotted a deer hiding in the trees. She thought she was well hidden and never moved. The dogs were so good to stay in the Ranger and not chase her.
On the way back, with the horses following us, the deer was in the same spot and this time looked right at us but still did not move. Very cooperative.

Denis' big blue truck doesn't get to live in the garage. That truck is such a senior citizen (made in 1985) that he really does deserve a sheltered spot. One of these days maybe we'll clear a space for him.

The view from the front of the house. The snow sure doesn't look very deep, but it was. And it was wet and heavy. The little bit of shoveling we had to do gave evidence to that. It made for some good snow cream though.
This picture is actually from earlier in the year when we had our first little snowfall. This was taken at dawn. I just love sunrises and sunsets. I think dawn might be the prettiest.
